As our cities grow, and need to be maintained to keep up with the modern world, our rail services face numerous challenges unique to the rail sector. They are often in congested and built up areas, where minimal disruption is vital.
By adding tight budgets, strict project schedules and built in delay clauses, our customers are left with little margin for error.
Whether it’s scheduled track maintenance or a major infrastructure upgrade, contractors can face a number of challenges unique to the rail industry.
We are here to help deliver your project and have been consistently doing so for many years. We can add value by using our expertise to help reduce safety risks, project costs and complexity, whilst helping minimise disruption.
Over the years we’ve helped deliver major rail projects from Canning Town flyover through to the Barmouth Viaduct renovations and we are now helping to deliver HS2 and the CP7 framework.
One of the major challenges when working on railway projects is keeping railways open during works. Closing the railway for any scheduled work requires extensive planning and co-ordination between many interested parties. Where a railway possession is required, our teams have the relevant experience and certifications for all rail works.
We regularly see the value of early engagement, where temporary works is considered at an earlier stage of the project sequence. This approach is especially critical within the rail sector. Using immersive technology like EVE allows you to rehearse a project before any work begins on site, so any potential issues can be fixed and project delays can be avoided.
We are also on call to respond quickly to emergency situations and get things moving again.
Whether you’re working on under-track crossing (UTX) and need lightweight shoring equipment on site fast, looking for real-time data on the condition of the track without the safety risks involved with manual surveys or need to monitor embankments for movement, we can help.
From getting you on site safely with our temporary access and bridging, to the propping and jacking equipment to support your structures and the monitoring sensors to manage the behaviour of the structure during the works or the impact on the environment around the site, we have everything you need to maintain, repair, improve or build railway tunnels, stations, permanent bridges and more.
To help minimise the challenges when managing multi-phase, multi-partner projects, we can work with you from initial tender stage and contract win, provide you with the best engineered design solution, supply the ideal products, and we’re the only temporary works specialist in the UK that can install and dismantle the kit!

As part of the second phase of renovation works to Barmouth Viaduct, a range of temporary works solutions were required to facilitate the replacement of the bridge’s existing hogback trusses. A variety of our equipment was specified to help manoeuvre the new supports into place.
Find out moreWhen Nuneham Viaduct had to be closed due to structural deterioration to its abutment, engineering teams were against the clock to get the railway back open. We were tasked with supporting and lifting the bridge 650mm in the air, enabling the abutment to be demolished and rebuilt.
Find out moreAs part of a £34 million investment by the Department for Transport (DfT) into re-introducing passenger services between Newcastle and Ashington, a number of upgrades are being made to the Northumberland Line. To assist with these works, a range of our propping solutions were required to facilitate the safe and efficient installation of a new underpass.
Find out moreLocated in Northumberland, the South Tyne Viaduct carries the Tyne Valley line (between Newcastle and Carlisle) over the South Tyne River. When repairs were needed on the bridge’s concrete piers, a combination of temporary jacking equipment and track monitoring solutions were required, resulting in us being appointed by AmcoGiffen.

Find out moreAs part of a restoration project on the historic Barmouth Bridge in Wales, we worked closely with contractor Alun Griffiths to employ an innovative bridge lifting technique, helping to minimise disruption and save time.
Find out moreTunnelling in London presents many complex engineering challenges. With a maze of existing tunnels, utilities and building foundations to navigate, care and consideration needs to be given. Real-time monitoring allowed the project to go ahead without affecting the surrounding structures.
Find out moreOver the years, we have worked together with our customers to maintain and invest in our hospitals, our schools, our roads & rail network, our water, gas and electricity supply, the list is endless.. Whether it’s a simple build, to the largest and most complex projects – we are here to help.
Our temporary works solutions cover groundworks support, propping, jacking, formwork, falsework, temporary bridging and temporary access.
